£6,300.00
A Tabriz carpet, dating to the 1930s, with a wide ochre red border, and a dynamic, palmette design.
A handsome Tabriz carpet, dated to c. 1920, with a wonderfully dynamic design, characteristic of earlier weavings of the 17th-century, featuring large-scale palmettes, creatively repeated in a variety of different forms and shades. Its ivory ground provides a perfect complimentary backdrop to the gracefully aged, vegetable-dyed hues, framed by a wide, soft ochre colour border.
The city of Tabriz in Northwest Persia has been known as a major centre of fine rug weaving since at least the 14th Century. Antique Tabriz carpets are distinguished by their tight weaves and remarkable adherence to the traditions of Classical Persian rug weaving design. This carpet, from the early 20th Century, is a particularly rare and sophisticated example of its type, since it demonstrates a much greater sense of spontaneity than one would expect of a Tabriz rug from its era.
This piece is in very good practical condition for everyday use, retaining its outer borders on all sides.
An attractive example, which would make a welcome addition to any setting.
