An unusual c. 1930s Qum carpet, employing the expressive designs of 19th Century tribal Caucasian rugs.
£7,400.00
An unusual c. 1930s Qum carpet, employing the expressive designs of 19th Century tribal Caucasian rugs.
Unlike many of the other Persian rug-weaving cities, Qum only established itself as a centre of production in the early 20th Century, though its carpets quickly established a reputation for the unique creativity of their designs, as well as high-quality of the wool, often Merino, from which they are made.
This highly decorative Qum carpet is an especially rare example of its type, combining the precision of early workshop weavings and the creative design characteristics of tribal Caucasian Zeyhour rugs of the 19th century. All the colours have been worked in gracefully aged vegetable dyes.
In excellent condition, still retaining its original plain borders on all four sides and original fringes at both ends.
A timeless rug to complement a wide variety of settings.
