£8,600.00
An early 20th Century Qum carpet, with a rare allover ‘Zili Sultan’ design in a wide, vegetable dyed palette.
Rug weaving in the city of Qum only started at the beginning of the 20th century and the city quickly established itself as a centre for exceptional fine weavings. Qum is known for their unique decorative carpets with classically precise drawings and luxurious wool, often merino, setting it apart from other Persian weaving centres.
This exquisite Qum carpet with its delicate attractive colour tones of ivory, sky blue, pinky-red and green has a unique design in comparison to other examples of its type. Its creative Zili Sultan design is composed of repeats of vases and floral sprays derived from earlier rugs of he 17th century. It has an a density of weave which explains the clarity of its crisp drawing and natural vegetable dyed colours which have aged nicely.
In very good preserved condition still retaining its original borders and fringes on all sides.
A one of a kind to complement a wide variety of settings.
