This lovely piece was probably embroidered in the Shahrisabzh region of Uzbekistan. Embroidered in silk using various stitches on a cotton background. The design is a striking adaptation of the trellis design often seem on suzanis. However, the drawing is on a grander scale, elegant but also quite dynamic. This feels like a piece that may have been made in a domestic setting rather than in a workshop. Lovely colours including a brilliant fuchsia and burnt orange. Slightly worn in some areas, but the piece is complete and original, and retains its original backing. This suzani would make a delightful wall hanging or bedcover.
