A Heriz carpet from the late 19th Century, featuring an unusual soft denim blue field.
Early Heriz carpets from north-west Persia are in a class of their own. Prized for their geometric designs, fine durable construction and creative vegetable-dyed colours, they make ideal long-lasting rugs. They have always stood out for their aesthetically appealing designs. The tribal characteristics of Heriz carpets allow them to blend in well in both contemporary and classic spaces.
An unusual c.1890 Heriz carpet features an overall, spontaneous drawing rather than the central medallion motif. The rare muted blue field has a subtle colour variation (abrash) which provides a wonderful contrast to the array of vegetable-dyed colours in its design, framed by a wide, warm red border.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use.
In our experience, Heriz carpets prove to be among the most versatile decorative weavings, with the ability to unite both modern and traditional design elements – this piece is a prime example, to add personality to any setting.
