A terracotta ground c. 1920s Gabbeh accent rug, with a restrained, geometric design.
Gabbeh rugs have been woven for centuries by the nomadic peoples of Persia’s Zagros Mountains, and are widely appreciated as highly desireable tribal weavings thanks to their simple, graphic designs and top-quality wool.
This striking example, dating to the 1920s, features an especially minimalist design, featuring a warm terracotta ground, with a natural abrash (or, colour variation) which adds a sense of depth and richness to its otherwise stripped back design, with irregular black and white bands across the field.
Retained in excellent condition, this rug would make a stylish addition to any setting.
