A c. 1940s Gabbeh carpet, with a red-and-blue diamond motif, worked in high-grade wool.
Gabbeh rugs have been woven for centuries by the nomadic peoples of Persia’s Zagros Mountains, and are widely appreciated as highly desireable tribal weavings thanks to their simple, graphic designs and top-quality wool.
This striking example, dating to the 1940s, features a bold, minimalist design, with a diamond pattern worked in vegetable dyed tones of denim blue and warm red; an open composition, which lends this piece a feeling of space and balence.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use, with its short fringes preserved on either side.
A charming tribal piece, with a modern aesthetic sensibility, to suit a variety of settings.
