A c. 1940s Gabbeh accent rug, with a minimalist design in vegetable dyed colours and high-grade wool.
Gabbeh rugs have been woven for centuries by the nomadic peoples of Persia’s Zagros Mountains, and are widely appreciated as highly desirable tribal weavings thanks to their simple, graphic designs and top-quality wool.
This striking example, dating to the 1940s, features a bold, minimalist design, with a block pattern worked in a wide variety of earthy vegetable-dyed tones, including sage green, camel, terracotta and ivory, framed by a decorative border.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use, with its short fringes preserved on either side.
A charming tribal piece, with a modern aesthetic sensibility, to suit a variety of settings.
