Bidjar Carpet
West Persia, Circa 1880
Bidjar is a famous town in West Persia where carpets have been woven for centuries by Kurdish weavers. They are known for their outstanding durability and graphic attractiveness. This is one of the most attractive Bidjar carpets that I have ever handled. It dates to the last years of the 19th century with a unique cotton warps/wool wefts structure. The pile is even and solid. The natural dyes are exquisite, from the beautiful red background to the light blues, pinks, greens and golds, with wonderful abrashes, the Persian term for variegated changes of colour. The field design is a loose interpretation of the ‘Garrus’ design seen on earlier Kurdish carpets. It is elegant and well drawn with an openness to it, a very happy carpet which would adorn any setting. In excellent condition. Professionally cleaned and ready for immediate use.
