£5,800.00
An unusual early 20th Century Khorassan carpet, with an understated palette and soft ivory field.
The city of Khorassan, in Northeast Persia, is home to an ancient and prestigious tradition of weaving, stretching back as far as the Sassanid Period (241-651 A.D.) – its pieces are best known today for the diversity of their designs, and the quality of their weaves.
This unusually understated example, dating to the early 20th Century, features a monochrome palette, with vegetable-dyed shades of muted brown over an ivory field, with a subtle duck-egg blue undertone, framed by a wide border. A restrained use of colour, well suited to this carpet’s well-balanced, all-over composition.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use, with its borders maintained on all sides.
A sophisticated piece, to suit a wide variety of settings.
