A c. 1930 Qum Accent rug, with a repeated paisley all-over pattern over an ivory ground.
£3,300.00
A c. 1930 Qum Accent rug, with a repeated paisley all-over pattern over an ivory ground.
Unlike many of the other Persian rug-weaving cities, Qum only established itself as a centre of production in the early 20th Century, though its carpets quickly established a reputation for the unique creativity of their designs, as well as high-quality of the wool, often Merino, from which they are made.
An attractive Qum rug with a harmonious palette of vegetable dyed colour palette, including shades of light green, terracotta, sky blue and ivory. The all-over paisley design is derived from early Persian textiles of the 18th century – originally an ancient Zoroastrian motif, representing the evergreen cypress tree, a symbol of everlasting life – with a fine weave engendering a real crisp clarity in the drawing.
In very good condition, still retaining its original borders and fringes at both ends.
A versatile rug to suit a wide variety of settings.
