A fine c. 1900 Veramin carpet, with a delicate all-over palmette design in warm earthy tones.
A stunning 19th Century Veramin carpet, boasting a rare colour palette, with a soft ivory ground working to compliment the rich burgundy tones in the drawing, with accents in duck egg blue, chocolate browns and olive green, which, owing to the skill of its artist and the high-density of knots in the weave, has a remarkably crisp quality. The composition employs a stamped floral pattern, repeated in various colours and forms across the field, and connected by scrolling vines and leaves – a balanced, overall design, which lends the work a feeling of relaxed elegance, typical of the finest early Veramin carpets.
Antique Veramin carpets are widely recognized as among the most exceptional Persian workshop weavings, best known for their high-quality wool, balanced compositions, and wide variety of rich vegetable-dyed colours. Many Veramin pieces from this era would have been woven by the Shahsavan tribe, who settled in the city after migrating from Northwest Persia, bringing with them the characteristic designs that set these carpets apart from those from the neighboring regions.
