A fine Tabriz rug, dating to c. 1880, with a soft terracotta ground and decorative border.
The city of Tabriz in Northwest Persia has been known as a major centre of fine rug weaving since at least the 14th Century. Antique Tabriz carpets are distinguished by their tight weaves and remarkable adherence to the traditions of Classical Persian rug weaving design.
This fine 19th Century rug features a pleasantly simple design across the field, with scrolling vines and leaves in shades of denim blue, over a soft terracotta ground, and framed by a decorative border – a much simpler and more open compostion than most examples of this small format.
A charming accent rug, in very good condition for everyday use, which would make a welcome addition to any space.
