A charming c. 1890 Northwest Persian runner, with all allover design over a warm terracotta field.
‘North West’ refers to a myriad group of villages with weaving styles borrowed from a wide range of influences from the surrounding regions, particularly Turkey and the Caucasus, and often including unique, tribal interpretations of sophisticated workshop weavings from further south.
A beautiful c.1890 North West Persian long rug with a rare monochrome overall drawing, framed by seven individual borders. The design across the terracotta field and main green border is creatively repeated in a variety of different colour compositions, adding great depth and character to the rug. Its composition has a rare sense of sophisticated simplicity, not found in later weavings.
In very good to excellent condition with gracefully aged natural dyed colours.
A unique example of its type, with a tribal charm and naivety to suit a variety of settings.
