A 19th Century Feraghan rug, with a well balanced, earthy colour scheme and charmign tribal design.
£1,250.00
A 19th Century Feraghan rug, with a well balanced, earthy colour scheme and charmign tribal design.
Early Feraghan carpets were popular during the 19th century, woven the same region as the equally popular and much sought-after Ziegler Mahal carpets. These carpets are often seen in grand houses in Europe and the UK, known for their quiet formality, soft wool and harmonious colours. Feraghan carpets are especially unique in that they manage to harmonise both tribal and formal elements of rug design.
This small-format example, dating to c. 1890, features an open, balanced composition in the central field, with tones of soft greys, terracotta and sky blue, framed by a tan border of good proportions – an understated, earthy colour scheme, all in organic, vegetable dyes.
In good condition for everyday use, though with a mild patina and wear commensurate with age.
A characterful piece, which would complement a wide variety of interiors.
