An unusual mid-century Qum carpet, with paisley motifs repeated in bands across the central field.
ABOUT
Unlike many of the other Persian rug-weaving cities, Qum only established itself a centre of production in the early 20th Century, though its carpets quickly established a reputation for the unique creativity of their designs, as well as high-quality of the wool, often Merino, from which they are made.
This fine Qum carpet combines the high-quality craftsmanship of a workshop piece with the creative, tribal designs of rare, nomadic Qashqai rugs of the mid-19th Century. The composition employs a series of scrolling ‘botteh’ patterns – originally an ancient Zoroastrian motif, representing the evergreen cypress tree, a symbol of everlasting life – in repeated bands across the central field, in a wide colour palette, including shades of ivory, sky blue, red, soft greys and greens.
Preserved in very good condition for everyday use, with its borders retained on all sides.
A highly decorative piece, to add personality and style to a variety of settings.
