A fine early 20th Century Veramin carpet, with a pomegranate blossom pattern in tones of terracotta and sky blue.
Antique Veramin carpets from central Persia are widely recognised as exceptional workshop weavings, renowned for their remarkable quality, fine crisp drawings and balanced variety of vegetable-dyed colours.
This early 20th-century Veramin carpet has a remarkably tight weave which lends a crisp clarity to its drawing. The light sky-blue field complements the large-scale drawing, framed by a wide terracotta border. The charming pomegranate design is derived from earlier rugs of the 18th century from Azerbaijan and symbolises prosperity, fertility and longevity.
This piece is in very good to excellent original condition, still retaining its original fringes at both ends and original borders on all four sides.
The harmonious vegetable-dyed colours and hand-spun wool have aged nicely. A timeless example to complement a wide variety of settings.
