“Wakelin and Linfield (Mike and Helen) are a Petworth based antiques partnership with an ever-changing inventory of antiques dating from the 16th to the 20th centuries. We specialise in Formal Antique Furniture, Oak and Country Furniture, Works of Art, Paintings and many more interesting items including Metalware, Sculpture and items for the Garden.”
When did you first exhibit at the Decorative Fair?
“The inaugural fair in Shepherd’s bush and practically every one since!”
How did you get into collecting antiques?
“We both started in 1968 independently taking part in local markets and running acquisitions to the trade in London and further afield.”
Is there a theme behind the collection?
“Quality, authenticity, shape, colour and form are our strict criteria when making additions to our collection.”
What intially draws you to an item?
“All of the above plus a little bit of charm. If is beautiful and functional then its a non brainer!”
Do you have any tips for new customers and collectors?
“Buy the best you can afford. Try to make sure you buy a unique piece rather than a run of the mill example. If it feels right and you fall in love with it, undoubtedly it will stay with you for a very long time.”
