Antique green tortoiseshell tea caddy with tent top and twin compartments.
This Green Tortoiseshell Tea Caddy dates to the Georgian period during the reign of George III, circa 1790.
The caddy is of octagonal form with a tent top and is finished in vibrant green tortoiseshell to the exterior. Ivory stringing frames each panel to the body, while silver stringing runs across the lid. The top is surmounted by a silver loop handle and the front is fitted with a matching silver escutcheon.
Opening the caddy reveals a boxwood faced interior fitted with two green tortoiseshell lids, each mounted with a turned bone handle. Removing the lids reveals twin tea compartments with visible traces of the original lining.
The caddy is complete with a working lock and tasselled key.
