Living In Style Gallery is a new edition to Church Street. Opening at the start of lockdown, they have been running for 4 years. Their aim is to bring Italian, French, Scandanavian and European furniture to London.
How did you get into collecting Antiques?
“The owners have been into antiques 25 years and upwards. They have a very strong history in the industry. There are two owners involved. One of them is in Belgium and has been in the industry for 50 years and the other for 25 years but Living In Style is a new edition.”
What draws you to an item?
“Essentially the story behind the item. The history and the Providence of the piece. It’s a combination of things really.”
Is there a theme behind the collection?
“The owners curate the collection. Beáta will very often be up at four in the morning rummaging around the French flea markets to find items that you maybe wouldn’t find elsewhere.”
Do you have any tips for new customers and collectors?
“We very often have someone come into the gallery and say “we have a new house I’m refurbishing” and want to redecorate everything in mid-century. Our advice would be to mix your styles. On our stand at the Decorative Fair we mix up 17th century with Mid-century. It works better to have a mix of eras. If you go too much for one particular era it looks very much like a museum. So if you wanted it to look like a home you could have Art Deco pieces mixed with Mid-century pieces mixed with older pieces.”
