A fine Malayer long rug, dating to c. 1890-1910, with an all-over floral design over a soft ivory ground.
Antique Malayer rugs, originating from Northwest Persia, are well known for the unique quality of their designs, combining the bold, graphic forms of tribal and village weavings, with the craftsmanship, precision, and delicate drawing one would expect from a fine Persian workshop piece.
This beautiful Malayer long rug boasts a remarkably tight weave, which explains the crisp clarity of its drawing. The rare ivory ground compliments the wide variety of vegetable-dyed colours in its composition, including green, light blue, terracotta and grey. The central field, with its well-balanced drawing, is well framed by over seven artistic borders.
This Malayer is in a very good practical condition for every day use, and its colours have taken on a fine age-related patina, lending them a sense of understated grace.
A fine tribal piece, to suit a wide variety of settings.
