Modernist Persian rug, Mid-20th century, 180cm x 180cm
Woven in wool with white silk highlights on a cotton foundation, this intriguing modernist rug is a kaleidoscope of colour and swirling forms. Closer inspection reveals a garden which has been deconstructed, with pebbled pathways, landscapes, leaves and flowers drawn in sensational colours. It is a feast for the eyes. The composition is framed by a plain black border which includes a series number, 24/30. Who is the artist and where was this rug made? Is it an original rug design or has it been copied from a previous artwork? I cannot answer these question at the moment, but I will continue my research. In the meantime, I offer this rug as an exceptional example of the woven arts which would adorn many decorative settings. The quality of the weave is as good as the wool and the weaving technique. The condition is excellent and it has recently been professionally cleaned.
