Circa 1780 A Swedish bleached oak double serpentine fronted  3 drawer commode with key!

From our Sewing Box collection, we are pleased to offer this Solid Coromandel Anglo Indian and Silver Sewing Box. The Sewing Box of sarcophagus shape made from figured coromandel with Silver mount stood upon four fluted shell feet. The Box with a silver diamond escutcheon, a looped carry handle and a single-handled drawer. When opened the Box reveals a fully fitted interior with stitched yellow silk with a partitioned tray to the body and several slip compartments to the inside of the lid. The top tray lifts out to allow access to further storage below. To the front of the Sewing Box, a drawer pulls forward to access further storage. The feet are hallmarked to the underside with barely legible marks. The box dates to the 19th century circa 1830 late Georgian period.

C1780 A Chic French Walnut 2 Drawer Commode

From our Tea Caddy collection, we are delighted to offer this Continental Novelty Pear Fruit Tea Caddy.

The Tea Caddy turned in Sycamore shaped as a natural Pear fruit in squat form with globular body and tapered lid surmounted by a naturalistic stalk to the top. The front mounted with the original 18th century steel escutcheon and hinge to the rear. The interior of the Pear contains traces of the original silver lining and dates to the turn of the 19th century circa 1800.

Tunbridge Ware Folk House Sewing Box

From our Sewing Box collection, we are delighted to offer this rare Tunbridge Ware Cottage Sewing Box dating to the Georgian period, circa 1800.

The sewing box is of rectangular form and crafted from sycamore wood, modelled as a naïve folk cottage with an apex roof and chimney. The exterior is hand painted with charming architectural and landscape details, including leaded windows, a central front door, a rear stable door with surrounding trees, foliage, and flowers. The front elevation features a painted open window discreetly concealing the escutcheon, while the sides show grassy mounds and the rear depicts a rake leaning against the wall.

When opened, the cottage reveals its original pink paper lined interior with fitted compartments for sewing tools and accoutrements. A removable tray provides organised storage and lifts out to access the larger compartment beneath.

This is a scarce early example of Tunbridge Ware, representing the painted folk tradition associated with the Georgian period. Later Tunbridge Ware is more commonly recognised for its intricate mosaic inlays, making this earlier painted form particularly desirable.

The town of Aubusson has long since been famous for the high quality of its textiles, its reputation stretching back as far as the 14th Century, as a centre of Medieval tapestry weaving. In the 17th Century, its workshops were given ‘Royal Appointment’ status, commissioned to produce elaborate carpets for the French Court, well-known for their tight weaves and lustrous wool.

This piece dates to the late 19th Century – the period known as the ‘Belle Epoque’ – featuring a wonderfully crisp floral design, with sage green and duck egg blue tones, worked over a muted ground surrounded by a salmon border, the colours of which have all gracefully aged.

A beautiful carpet, which would make a fine addition to any interior.

In very good condition for everyday use.

The Tea Caddy of small rectangular form is composed with octagonal Mother of Pearl panels framed by beautiful red Tortoiseshell and edged in ivory. The top of the Tea Caddy is surmounted by a small silver loop handle and finished to the front with a squared Silver escutcheon. When opened the Tea Caddy reveals a single Mahogany chamfered lid with a turned bone handle, the inside of the lid faced in ivory and the body faced in Kingwood and traces of the original Silver foil lining to the tea compartment. This rare example dates to the late 18th century Georgian period during the reign of George III Circa 1790, an extremely good example perfect for any collection.

From our Tea Caddy Collection, we are pleased to offer this superb Georgian Pair of Satinwood Tea Caddy. The Tea Caddies of elongated elliptical shape beautifully veneered in golden Satinwood with chevron borders inlaid with Ebony and Boxwood and finished with chequered edging. The lids of the Tea Caddies feature an oval inlaid cartouche with blossoming flowers and have a diamond escutcheon finishing the exterior. The interior of the Caddies each have a shaped floating lid with a brass turned handle and silver foil lining. The Pair of Georgian Satinwood Tea Caddies date to the late 18th century during the reign of George II circa 1790.

The Tea Caddy of square form with delicately inlaid fluted cants featuring the Prince of Wales feathers to the lid within an oval cartouche. To the front, a bone escutcheon is located towards the top surrounded by a fan-inlay. Each scene is bordered with tulipwood crossbanding and boxwood edging. Upon opening the tea caddy reveals a satinwood lid with a turned bone handle. Lifting the lid reveals the original tin foil lining within the caddy compartment.
