An Early 19th Century Birds Eye Maple Mirror with Gilt Bronze Candle holders

From our Tea Caddy collection, we are delighted to present this Georgian tortoiseshell and silver tea caddy dating to the reign of George III, circa 1810.

Of elegant oval form, the tea caddy is veneered in richly patterned tortoiseshell displaying warm amber and deep chestnut tones, framed by finely worked rippled silver mounts that provide both structure and visual contrast. The restrained decoration reflects the refined taste associated with high quality Georgian tea wares.

The interior is fitted with a silver faced compartment featuring a distinctive pie crust rim and retains its tortoiseshell floating lid surmounted by a silver ball finial. This traditional configuration was designed to preserve the freshness and value of loose tea, which during the early nineteenth century remained a prized household commodity.

Well executed examples combining tortoiseshell and silver are increasingly difficult to source, particularly in oval form. This caddy represents the level of craftsmanship expected of luxury domestic objects produced during the late Georgianperiod.

From our Tea Caddy collection, we are delighted to offer this Georgian Green Tortoiseshell Tea Caddy. The Tea Caddy is finished in vibrant green Tortoiseshell veneer to the exterior with ivory stringing, canted corners, a silver vacant initial plaque and silver escutcheon. The interior of the Tea Caddy is faced in Boxwood surrounding the two tortoiseshell-fitted lids mounted with turned handles. Removing the lids reveals the tea storage compartments with the visual signs of the silver foil lining. The tea caddy dates to the Georgian period during the reign of George III (1760-1820) Circa 1790.

Miniature tortoiseshell tea caddy, dating to the Regency period, circa 1820. The caddy with a tortoiseshell exterior is decorated to the front with a pressed starburst design centred by a silver initials plaque engraved FW, beneath a square silver escutcheon.

The domed lid is edged with silver quarter stringing and surmounted by a silver ball finial. The caddy stands on four silver bun feet, elevating it from the base.

The interior retains its original pink velvet lined lid with a turned bone handle and tortoiseshell lid. Traces of the original silver foil lining remain visible within the tea compartment.

This example is notable for its unusually small scale, making it a rare model within tortoiseshell tea caddies of the period.

The tea caddy is complete with a working lock and tasselled key.

This Regency Mahogany Apothecary Box, dating to circa 1820, is of rectangular form with a fitted upper compartment and single drawer below. The mahogany case is mounted with a flush brass carrying handle to the lid, a brass escutcheon to the front and a flush mounted brass handle to the drawer.

Opening the lid reveals a fully fitted interior containing an assortment of glass medicine bottles and vials, together with scales, a glass mortar and pestle and associated medical accessories. The inside of the lid retains its original trade label for The Medical Hall, 54 Lower Sackville Street, Dublin, Charles Butler M.D., Proprietor, with Established A.D. 1817 to one side and For the Sale of Genuine Medicines to the other. The small printed inscription beneath the illustration reads Myers, Sparrow & Co., London for the printer/engraver of the trade label.

The lower drawer is secured by a retaining pin accessed from the top of the box, which must be removed before the drawer can be opened. The drawer contains further fitted compartments for additional bottles and medical implements, retaining a substantial proportion of its original contents.
