Woven around 1870, this is a very pretty Aubusson rug with a fine weave and a very delicate palette. Lovely spacious drawing of the floral medallion design. Ideal for a scheme with period decoration, in a drawing room or bedroom. Professionally cleaned. This is a very nice size which would work in many spaces. 19th century Heriz carpets are renowned for their primary colours, in particular lovely reds and blues. However this piece has a very different aesthetic, with a pastel palette. Note the soft terracotta field, and subtle yellows, pinks, light blues and greens. Even the dark blue is a softer shade. The design is very elegant and well-spaced. The medallion has some intriguing ornamentation and I like the bold drawing of the anchors at each end in a subtle shade of aquamarine. The border complements the field well and is nicely spaced. The carpet is made with hand spun wool with harmonious abrashes or colour changes throughout. This is a handsome carpet which would work well in many traditional or contemporary settings and in many kinds of spaces. It has survived the generations in good pile and it has recently been professionally cleaned.

Oushak lies in the Western part of modern Turkey where there is a long traditional of carpet weaving going back to the early Ottoman period of the 16th century. This lovely carpet draws from that tradition. It is a lovely piece composed of a turquoise field of largescale palmettes and other stylised floral ornaments arranged in an all-over design. This is framed by a very pretty coral border with elegantly spaced geometric motifs. The field colours are dominated by the aquamarine, golds and greens. The overall impression is very harmonious, decorative and stylish. It is rare to find an Oushak carpet with these qualities in such a sweet small carpet size. Professionally cleaned in recent times.

Tibetan weavers produced rugs and trappings for a variety of purposes. These woven artefacts often have great charm, such as this lovely saddle cover with its soft fleecy wool and great dyes. Note the apricot field and raspberry border. Attractive ornamentation. The composition is highly graphic and would work equally well on a wall or floor. In very good condition. This large and dramatic carpet from North-West Persia makes an instant impact. The archaically drawn central medallion is surrounded by angular tendrils and large palmettes which come together in a very decorative composition. Few colours have been used, but to good effect, especially the delightful abrashed terracotta and a lovely sky-blue. The free drawing of the design suggests that this carpet was made in a village or domestic setting rather than in a commercial carpet weaving workshop. The borders are more conventional in design but are so charming and colourful that they make a perfect frame for the exuberant field. Note the good size, which would make it ideal for a drawing room or dining area. I feel that this piece would work equally well in traditional and contemporary settings. In generally good condition for the age, with a few areas of minor wear. Some small restoration to the edges. Professionally cleaned in our workshop.

Woven in the Azerbaijan region of North-West Persia, Serapi carpets are among the most sought after of 19th century Persian carpets today. Their archaic designs and daring colour combinations have ancient origins, but offer wonderful decorative options in both traditional and contemporary settings. This piece fits well into the category, but has an additional edge to it. The colours are pale without any dark blue or deep red while the ornamentation is sparingly drawn, ideal for situations where the carpet needs to blend well with a complex decorative scheme. Note the subtle use of pale blue. All this adds up to a highly decorative and interesting carpet. Professionally cleaned and restored, this carpet is ready for immediate use.

Ingegerd Silow is one of the most prolific and sought after of the Scandinavian kilim designers of the mid-20th century. During her long career, she designed many carpets, usually in the kilim or ‘rolakan’ style. Her simple designs, normally with carefully balanced interlocking geometric forms work so well with contemporaneous Scandinavian and modern furniture.

She was part of a second generation of twentieth century Swedish textile designers. As with her other Swedish design-world contemporaries, she would have been made acutely aware of her predecessors while she trained at the Konstfack, Stockholm’s famous art and craft school. Her training in folk craft is evident in her carpets, which are of the highest quality in terms of their impeccable materials and weaving techniques. Furthermore, her works radiate the warm minimalism of classic Swedish design. This piece is a fine example. The wool quality and technique are excellent. The colours are very well blended, with lovely areas of abrash and complexity, ideal for contemporary decorating.

One rarely finds an original vintage Beni Ouirain runner in this format in its original size, so I snapped it up. Soft shaggy undyed white wool with a minimal lattice design drawn in brown undyed wool. One could not imagine anything more simple yet effective. Original kilim ends and selvages intact.

Dating from the last quarter of the 19th century, this cute village rug from north-west Persia is of a type that is becoming increasingly hard to find. It is a lovely little size which can fit into so many spaces. Great saturated natural dyes, fine hand spun wool, and a crisply drawn geometric design brings the rug to your immediate attention. It is a rug of great character. In good original condition with only minimal signs of wear or repair. Professionally cleaned.

This is a very pretty 19th century suzani from Uzbekistan with a lovely repeating floral design. Embroidered in silk on a fine cotton background in 5 panels, the design is elegant yet quite rustic. Pretty shades of fuchsia, greens and light blues. This would make an ideal wall hanging. Lined with an original chintz backing. In generally good condition.
